Tin Star blog pointed me to the results of the Bill Hunt campaign's new poll. The poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies claims only 46% of those surveyed think Sheriff Carona deserves a second term, and that his favorable/unfavorable rating is "barely" 2:1.
These results are unsurprising. Commenter Richard R. posted this comment on OC Blog on July 27:
"Last night I got polled by phone about the race. Very long, about 30 questions, very involved. Lots of testing of negative statements about Carona, a little bit of background about hunt and a couple of LA Sheriff types, I forget their names, I'd never heard of them."
No information from the poll on Carona's name ID versus Bill Hunt's, or how Hunt plans to amass the necessary financial resources to communicate with OC's nearly 1.5 million voters once his deputies supporters have maxed out. After paying for the POS poll and campaign manager Michael Jameson's July salary (the report showed he was paid $8,000, but there's no indication of when he started or when the $8K check was cut, it's difficult to determine his mothly salary), Hunt's treasury is probably considerably depleted from the $40,000 COH shown in his June 30 filing. On the other hand, he has some fundraisers scheduled, so we'll see what the next report shows.
The item to watch out for on future reports is the status of Hunt's personal loan of $15,000 to his campaign. If he pays himself back before the election, it's a sure sign the candidate has little confidence in his prospects for victory.
