OC GOP To Vote On Carona Resolution On Monday

Sheriff Mike Carona's troubles mount. This Monday evening, Cypress Councilman Mike McGill is introducing a resolution calling Sheriff Mike Carona to take an extended leave of absence:

Whereas, Michael Carona is the Sheriff of Orange County and was previously endorsed by the Republican Party of Orange County (OCGOP) in his successful reelection bid in 2006 and

Whereas, Orange County Sheriff Carona has been indicted by the U.S. Attorney on several criminal charges and

Whereas, if the OCGOP requests Sheriff Carona to immediately resign based on the distraction of the indictment, the OCGOP would be asking Sheriff Carona to forfeit an office and a career that he cannot regain, if he is innocent of the charges against him and

Whereas, the Sheriff’s own conduct, coupled with the serious federal charges against him and the pending trial, provide a significant distraction to the Sheriff in the performance of his duties and ability to serve Orange County;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the OCGOP calls upon Sheriff Carona to take an extended leave of absence (as permitted by law) until such time as the charges against him are resolved in a court of law.

I'm a little rusty on the proceudre, but I believe the OC GOP Central Committee will first have to vote to suspend the rules to bypass the Resolutions Committee and consider this on the floor -- which tkaes an affirmative two-thirds vote.

Then, the resolution would need a two-thirds approval for adoption.

A Thanksgiving Thought,

Thank God every day when you get up that you have something to do. That day which must be done whether you like it or not. Being forced to work and forced to do your best will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and content, and a hundred virtues which the idle will never know.

We also pray and give thanks for Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, during this, a Firestom of events. May Sheriff Carona and his family find this brief solitude the time needed to focus to events other than this current Firestorm.

[Bottom line]

I believe we need a new Sheriff ASAP. I only hope the people in O.C. will get off there bottoms and do some research to find the best candidate that works for us. I am not a politically active person. I take pride in voting. I can tell you this for sure, well before the election for sheriff; I will pick my candidate and support his campaign. I am tired of our county being known as politically corrupt.

Whitacre is nobody's puppet. He's one of a few men I know who's not afraid to stand up for his convictions regardless of what other people say or think. I believe that just like last year when he tried to get the OCGOP to do the right, he will do the same tonight. As I remember him saying, "This not about who you support for Sheriff' it's about the rule of law and what we stand for as a Party."

He was right then and he's right now.
