WHY DID SHERIFF MICHEL CARONA DO WHAT HE DID?

THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S INVOLVEMENT IN PROSECUTING STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS IS, OTHERWISE, STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS WOULD NOT BE PROSECUTED. WHY?

THE PEOPLE HAVE THE ULTIMATE POWER AND RESPONSIBLIITY TO ELECT AN INDIVIDUAL TO AN ELETED POSITION. THEREFORE, A LOCAL PROSECUTOR DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OR RESPONSIB ILITY TO INDICT, CONVICT, AND REMOVE THAT INDIVIDUAL ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE

IN OTHER WORDS, IF THE PEOPLE ELECT AN INDIVIDUAL TO A LOCAL POSITION, WHAT RIGHT DOES A LOCAL PROSECUTOR HAVE TO REMOVE A PERSON ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE? THE LOGIC WAS THE PEOPLE HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE LOCAL PROSECUTOR. THE TRUTH IS POLITICS.

THIS POSITION PREVAILED IN ORANGE COUNTY, AND THE STAE OF CALIFORNIA FROM STATEHOOD, UNTIL THE 1970S. UNTIL SOMEONE BROKE THE RULES, SOMEONE DID NOT KNOW THAT CORRUPT LOCAL OFFICIALS ARE SUBJECT TO THE SAME LAWS OF THE LAND AS EVERONE ELSE.
WHO BROKE THE RULES? IT WAS A WHISLE BLOWER, A COUPLE INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS, AND OF ALL PEOPLE, A PERSON WORKING FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE.

THESE PEOPLE BROKE THE RULES BY NOT PLAYING THE POLITICALLY CORRECT GAME. THEY DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOST TO BE DOING.AND WHEN THEY DID

FOURTY TWO INDIVIDUALS WERE INDICTED AND CONVICTED; INCLUDING A CONGRESSMAN, THE ORANGE COUNTY ASSESSOR, MEMBERS OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, POLITICAL FAT CATS AND OTHERS.

THE FIRST TIME A CONGRESSMAN HAD BEEN REMOVED FROM CONGRESS SINCE THE CIVIL WAR, THE REFORM OF PROPERTY TAX BY THE PASSAGE OF PROPOSITION 13, THE LARGEST REFORM OF MEDICARE IN HISTORY, AND TIN CUP. ALL ARE THE RESULT OF NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.

ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY STARTED IT’S COVER UP AND BACKLASH. THEY WANTED THE INVESTIGATIONS AND PROSECUTIONS STOPPED. EVENTUALLY THEY WERE VERY SUCESSFUL.

THE “WHISLE BLOWER” LARRY BALES, GOT HIS BUTT KICKED. THE INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS WERE EITHER HIRED OR FIRED. ONE WAS“HIRED” BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND THE MAIN INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER “JOE CODERO” WAS “FIRED” BECAUSE HE HAD OTHER FISH TO FRY AND DID NOT WANT TO STOP.

NO MORE INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS, NO MORE CORRUPTION IN ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT. VERY SIMPLE AND VERY EFFICTIVE. THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, MIKE CAPAZZI, WAS “FIRED” BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. THE REPUBLICAN CHOICE FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY, TONY RACKAUCKAS, MR IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION HIMSELF.

WHY DID MICHAEL CARONA DO WHAT HE DID? WHY NOT? HE WAS SAFE FROM THE PUBLIC “WATCHDOGS,” HE HAD IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION, AND FULL SUPPORT FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

DAMN THOSE FEDS, DON’T THEY KNOW THE RULES!

CARONA’S ACTIVITIES BRINGS NEW MEANING TO THE SHERIFF’S BANK ROBBERY DIVISION.

A FIRESTORM THAT WILL PASS, THEN OUR SHERIFF CAN RESUME HIS DUTIES.

Please give this process a little time. Our Sheriff, Sheriff Michael Carona, has not been convicted of any crime and HE IS NOT A FELON.

When the Firestorm broke about our Sheriff, Mike Carona, being indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on numerous counts of misconduct related to actions he MAY HAVE (MAY NOT HAVE) taken before and during his term as Sheriff of Orange County, we all became concerned. The Firestorm generated lots of theatre amongst the usual suspects in Orange County politics, and now here in the common man's relm. Yea, let’s propose more laws and issue more self-aggrandizing press releases about how much was done in response to the “bad person” now found amongst us. Our fallen comrade does not need any more finger-pointers.

How do we ensure that a law enforcement officer, like Mike Carona, gets the same standard of Due Process of law as any other ordinary citizen? By not expecting any higher standard of him, and not sending him to the career bone yard, slammer or poor house yet! Every single day in this land every citizen has the right to due process of law and equal protection under the law! There is not one set of rights for cops and another set for everyone else! There’s one! There are not “higher or lower” standards of justice for cops accused of crimes. There’s one!

The criminal justice process begins with an investigation and does not stop with an arrest! An arrest and an arraignment are only pit stops in the judicial race towards the finish line. Accusations and convictions cannot be proven true beyond a reasonable doubt outside a courtroom our job will be harder to know if TRUE justice was afforded Our Sheriff during this Firestorm. It will be almost impossible to really know if he betrayed his oath of office and our trust.

Remember: FACTS today are still only “allegations” and that the Sheriff retains the presumption of innocence during this Firestorm.

Sheriff Carona came in as Sheriff and gets to go out with his boots on. There cannot be any rush to judgement during this Firestorm. It must be done right. No opinion polls or votes of no confidence. Nope, none. An elected Sheriff is still a cop. Deal with it! It's his birthright under the Constitution of the United States of America!

Stay Strong Our Sheriff, Sheriff Carona.

Headlights On!
Headlights On!
Headlights On!

Bye Bye Mike

Sheriff Carona has the right to hide behind a court-of-law standard (innocent until proven guilty) to stay out of jail. As a political figure, however, he can not hide behind a court-of-law standard to keep his job. He must go.

Either he accepted and reported the cash and merchandise he received from his "associates" or he didn't. It is either "yes" or "no." There is no gray area here.

Of the multiple charges brought against the Sheriff, do I think the United States of America can prove at least one of them? Of course they can. We all know he took the money and the merchandise and the United States Department of Justice will easily convince a jury it is so.

According to press reports, our government offered the Sheriff a sweetheart deal if he would plead guilty and spare everyone the agony of this circus. Carona refused (as is his right). But he has no right to hold the people of Orange County hostage by remaining as Sheriff while he pursues this quixotic effort to clear his name.

Larry -

"...IF THE PEOPLE ELECT AN INDIVIDUAL TO A LOCAL POSITION, WHAT RIGHT DOES A LOCAL PROSECUTOR HAVE TO REMOVE A PERSON ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE? THE LOGIC WAS THE PEOPLE HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE LOCAL PROSECUTOR. THE TRUTH IS POLITICS."

Are you serious? A politician (and his consultants) create a persona that the electorate votes for based on the presumption of integrity, honesty, shared values, etc. If once in office, the elected official becomes corrupt, are you saying that nobody has the right to investigate and remove that official except the electorate?

Again, you can't be serious!

I have received recent criticism from some around I trust regarding my "wordiness" in my commentary of my support for Our Sheriff, Michael Carona. Please understand that I am passionate about this issue, and have a special feeling about expressing that passion and broadening others views toward Our Sheriff.

In the future, I will make every attempt at brevity in my commentary and reply.

Thank you for your understanding.

Headlights On!

LARRY BALES

NO! THAT’S NOT WHAT I AM SAYING AT ALL. WHAT I AM SAYING IS: THE LOCAL NEWS INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS, THE LOCAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND THE ELECTRICT, ALL HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO REMOVE A CORRUPT ELECTED OFFICIAL.

WE ESTABLISHED THAT IN THE 1970’S WHEN WE INDITED AND CONVICTED 42 INDIVIDUALS. ONCE THOSE RESPONSIBILITYS NO LONGER EXISTS, WE HAVE A SHERIFF AND LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIIAL THAT HAVE POLITICAL IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION. MIKE CARONA EXERCISED THAT AND MIKE CARONA GOT CAUGHT BY THE FEDS. THE SYSTEM DOES WORK SOME OF THE TIME, UNFORTUNATELY NOT OFTEN ENOUGH.

A word of advice, Larry: it's my experience that readers tend to take commenters who insist on USING ALL CAPS less seriously, regardless of the merits of their argument.

rich white guy

Larry,

From one blogger to another, I must agree with Jubal on the all caps thing. Use capital letters sparingly and only when you want to emphasize certain points in your overall agruement.

If you must use all caps, then I suggest using a bold highlight (if capable) on the points within your arguement you want to emphasize further.

HEADLIGHTS ON!

redperegrine

rwg, please, please tell me you are a brilliant social commentator and satirist!

RWG,

If you only support your pal while driving with your "headlights on", do you not miss out on the other hours of the day when not in your vehicle? May I suggest you carry two flashlights while on foot. Or maybe you could wear one of those neat miner hats with the light on the front. Just food for thought bro.

rich white guy

redperegrine,

My modesty prevents me from confirming your suspicion. In this relm, I am simply Rich White Guy.

Annonymous,

My support for Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, is 24/7. "Headlights On" is our battle-cry in this recent Firestorm, bro.
