Sheriff Mike Carona and his wife wife Debbie each issued defiant, we'll-fight-them-on-the-beaches statements this afternoon.
Peggy Lowe has them over at Total Buzz.

Look for Carona to resign within a week. He cannot afford to risk losing his pension and the fact they have him on tape means a conviction is very likely should it go to trial.

Does anyone know the exact words spoken on the tape? Both Jaramillo and Haidel have a huge ax to grind with Carona and could be fabricating much of this to get even. I say the people indicted today should be considered innocent until proven guilty. And if they are relying the these two jokers' testimony against Carona, well, I wish the prosecution much luck.

Weren't these two "jokers" Carona's close friends and confidants? He trusted his political career on these two jokers. Now they are all liars?

Just another right-wing Christian hypocrite. It would be funny watching him squirm if people's safety wasn't involved.

Lets face it, a Deputy in this position would already be history and a wayward Deputy would do much less damage to the public trust. The Deputies do the hard work 24/7 to build that trust by their one on one contact with the citizens of OC and they do it willingly. Nobody should ever ask them to do this with the shameless likes of Carona and Company's baggage on their backs. It's time to honor them and the citizens with an honorable leader.

Carona should stay in the game. I don't think he should resign. I voted for him. I want him to have a chance to defend himself in a fair trial. The Feds need to prove their case. Think about what the Feds did to the border patrol agents.
