"Running Away" is what put this party in the retched condition it is in this state and nationally, starting with the recall of Doris Allen and the fleeing from Bob Dornan (locally) that allowed this human excrement of a woman named Loretta to reach the house. I am sick and tired of these (you) little league players that have pulled our party from the controlling party both state and nationally to nothing but a foot note in Americas History. It is time for Republicans to stand together and pray to GOD that true leaders will come forward and lead this party back to its rightful place as the standard by which all other parts are measured. Tearing down good people is the lowest form of human nature. I SAY LETS STOP IT HERE.

More than 30 years in this business allows me some perspective on these issues… I a sickened by what many of you that contribute to this blog has done to this once great party of ours.

Let's appoint Commander Ralph Martin from LA County!

the Board to appoint an interim Sheriff from outside the department...

Sounds like another way of saying he wants to appoint Ralph Martin.

Bill Hunt 4 Sheriff?

I voted for Bill.

Mr. Moorlach is always quick to condemn others but himself. He was the leading spender of three brand-new Sups in "upgrading" his office early this year. He spent close to $200K of taxpayers' money to buy new furnitures. His excuse was he was entitled for it. What's a joke!

Harry Schell

So Corona resigns. Spends some years fighting this deal, and is cleared. During those years he has no income, and his reputation is trashed.

Would Mr. Moorlach then propose Orange County pay Corona back wages through his term? He terms out next time, so further than that would not be fair to either party. I bet the chances of such a move would be zero.

IF Carona is indeed innocent until proven guilty, then I would assume the Board would treat him that way, monitor OCSD ops to make sure things are not falling apart but give the Sherriff time to deal with the problem without forcing him to resign. IF not, then Carona pays the penalties prescribed by law.

One thing is certain: Democratic congressman, presidents or other politicians virtually NEVER resign due to indictment. Republicans do. Maybe they should not.

I would prefer everyone in the political class would be honorable, but they aren't. So maybe that is indeed where the bar is set these days.

Mr. Schell, What in the world does Mr. Moorlach's office furniture have to do with Sheriff's Carona's multiple felony indictments? Let's stick to the issue at hand.

If you followed the last Sheriff's race then you should be aware that Carona is a corrupt politician who has associated with mobsters, given badges for favors, lied repeatedly on his political reports, had his charity shut down and the list goes on and on.......In addition, he is morally corrupt and has caused serious embarassment to the line deputy sheriff's who protect the residents of OC......now he has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury.....there is no way the Feds are going to bring a weak criminal case against a sitting Republican Sheriff....

The key is how deep does this corruption or mismanagement extend into the ranks of the current and former department managers?

The only way to ensure an impartial evaluation is to bring in an outside police executive to get to the bottom of things, assess and make any needed changes....Commander Ralph Martin fits this bill and should be appointed....he has a proven track record of honest, integrity and leadership!

DeadBeatPoliticalHack: Please clarify. Are you saying the Party finds itself in the position it does because Republicans recoil in their support of other Republicans who are found to be unethical public servants? Or are you saying we are in this position because of the unethical behavior itself by a select few?

I applaud withdrawing support from anyone who is found to violate the public trust. Period.

Support of a Party is not about supporting a politician. Politicians come and go. Many are solid citizens concerned about their community. Some are dopes. Others are crooks.

For most of us however, our support of the Party is about supporting the idea, the set of values around which we raise our families and base our communities.

When a public servant violates the public trust, especially a Republican, it is incumbent upon other Republicans to withdraw support and identify others who can more honorably carry the message. Anything less is truly a disgrace.

Who is this ridiculous DeadBeatPoliticalHack? He sounds more like a DeadBeatCaronaFlack. We need Probolsky and his $1,000 rewards?

question,,,,does everything that mike schroeder touches turn to dog do do, or is it just most things

I would like to hear Baugh's take on all this. Has he issued a statement on behalf of the Orange County GOP?

just...asking

Republicans resign?

Tell that to Larry "wide stance" Craig! Even when they plead guilty they don't resign!

Democrat or Republican indicted leaders should step aside. Carona should take a "paid" leave and let the good men and women of the department focus on public safety. If cleared return, if guilty suffer the consequences (lost pension, prison time, fines).

fouse, gary c

Mike Carona has yet to have his day in court, but I believe he should resign for the good of his department and orange county.

The state AG should be contacted and brought in on this corruption case. He can take charge of this department and make sure it is run correctly.

CALIFORNIA CODES GOVERNMENT CODE

Any person so appointed has all the powers of a sheriff with respect to the particular matter.

Orangeman,
I chasing you. lol. This is a FEDERAL CASE not a state case. The sheriff's department isn't doing the invesigation on it. I'm not an attorney and even I can figure this out after reading this two sections. Good try though

Supervisor Moorloch is right, carona should step down. Given the number of criminal counts, the fact that two of the three witnesses against him are trained attorneys who know what is required by the Feds to get a criminal indictment and conviction, it is difficult to believe that one of these felonies won't stick.

Obviously, if in fact he took a kickback from one of the attorneys who now is testifying against him for a referral to that attorney, he has convicted himself in the COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION. Taking money that could have gone to a dead deputies wife is a cardinal sin and could only be perpetrated by a person without any moral compass. .

Carona is ineffectual as the Sheriff of Orange County and should step down or be removed. The Board of Supervisors should select someone to take his place, preferably not from the command staff at Orange County Sheriff’s Department. It is difficult to determine how deep this corruption goes and I believe the tax payers of Orange County deserve much better. Appointing someone to interim sheriff who was appointed by Mike Carona is unconscionable. The level of (Group Think) by his appointees cannot be quantified.

The Board of Supervisors needs to bring new blood to clean house of this command staff whom have been yes persons for this guy. We need someone like The Officer from Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (Martin?) Or Chief Walters of Santa Ana who has the command experience to fix things at this department
I think I speak for a majority of Citizens in Orange County when I say, “Quit now! mister carona”, be a man and let your spouse off the hook save your family the embarrassment of a public trial. You, better than anyone else, knew what you were doing when you did it. This can’t be said for your spouse.

I don't like Carona, but in all fairness, what I understand is Carona did give this "referral fee" he was paid to the late deputy's widow.
