Jordan Brandman for AUHSD Fundraiser

Now that the court has ordered OC Superintendent of Education Bill Habermehl to end his ludicrous attempt stop counting the Anaheim Union High School District special election petition signatures, it's off to the races for the Feb. 5 special election.

Jordan Brandman is already running hard for the seat, with a  big name-heavy fundraiser set for November 7 at JT Schmid's in Anaheim.

The bipartisan host committee for the young Democrat includes:

• Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle
• Orange County-Clerk Recorder Tom Daly
• Anaheim Councilwoman Lorri Galloway
• Former Secretary of Education Marian Bergeson
• Anaheim Union High School Trustee Anna Piercy
• OC Board of Education Member Alexandria Coronado
• Former Cypress Mayor Mike McGill
• Former OC Supervisor Bill Steiner
• Former Assemblyman Tom Umberg
• Buena Park Councilman Art Brown
• Former Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer
• Former La Palma Mayor Kenneth Blake

Impressive.

Compact election schedules favor candidates with money, organization and name ID. OK, any candidate with all three of those has an advantage -- but the abbreviated time frame of a special election makes that advantage even more pronounced.

Brandman was very involved in the special election drive from the get-go and my impression is he's the favorite of the various constituencies comprising that grass-roots effort. He's clearly locked up a lot of strong endorsements and he ran (and narrowly lost) his AUHSD campaign in November 2006 -- so he knows the ropes and presumably still has his relatively fresh donors and volunteers lists.

Once-and-again AUHSD Trustee Harald Martin has threatened to run in the special election, but one would think reality will intrude on that decision-making soon. After all, if outrage at your appointment to fill a school board vacancy sparks a spontaneous, bipartisan, grass-roots coalition to clear you out via special election, I'd wager the the energy of motivated voters and activists is decidedly against you.

Things can always change in politics, but at the moment this special election looks like it's Jordan Brandman's to lose.

Tickets start at $100 all the way up to $2500. There are several levels of contribution amounts as we wanted to be able touch all levels and interest in supporting Jordan. If you can and want to give more please do, there are contribution limits for school board.
