Maybe we should investigate elected officials on a regular basis. it certainly seems to generate a burst of "I really am a good public servant" activity.
OC Treasurer Chriss, for example, has been on such a PR blitz ever since the avalanche of bad publicity that began with the office redecoration story. I just received media advisory announcing a press event tomorrow morning to unveil...drum roll please....
A Redesigned Tax Bill And Inserts!
Be still my beating heart.
I'm not trying to be flip...OK, I am. I'm not a fan of tax bills but if I must be on the receiving end of one, I'd like it to be easier to read.
But a press conference? It's not like the dollar bill is being re-designed -- or even that Chriss Street is being named Local Elected Official of the Year by the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers.
Here is my reaction. The current bills are not that complicated. This information is even on-line. Who has complained? Take a wild guess at how expensive it is to revamp the bills - yup this costs money. It's just a diversion. Taxpayers know one thing - ya gotta pay the bill....make it pretty or ugly...pay the bill. So who benefits? Nobody but the "end of the road" Street machine. What if every County office wasted time doing a press conference everytime a bill was restyled? What a silly ploy and a waste of time and money. Remember every county employee at the press conference is being paid to stand up and pretend to look interested.
