Does anyone else find it ironic that traffic in the background is going at least 55 miles per hour on bith sides of the freeway? And this road is supposed to provide trffic relief? Sounds kind fishy to me.

Jubal

It was two in the afternoon.

Jubal,
Where exactly was this press conference held? It looks like Camp Pendelton in the background. Also, why were you invited to the helicopter ride? Whay is your particular interest in the extension of the toll road? What do you stand to gain from it? Does anyone you represent stand to gain from it? And if so who is it? At what time does the traffic in the particular spot where this conference was filemed begin to pile up?

Art Pedroza

Is the 241 in Tran's district?

Milk Man

The 241 Toll Road completion is a regional issue that require county wide support. Good for Tran and Calvert for calling attention to this issue.

Art Pedroza

Milk Man,

My guess is they are doing this in order to kiss up to developers. Watch the money pour into their coffers.

Alex Brant-Zawadzki

This is no way feels like a knee-jerk response to the recent LA Times article about how the toll road threatens a Juaneno Indian burial/ritual site.

South OC resident

I'm glad somebody care enough to do something about the traffic gridlock down here. We cannot let Sanchez and the wacky tree huggers get away with delaying the 241 completion.

Jubal

Anon at 4:52 p.m.:

Attack the messenger, eh?

Maybe you are new to this blog. I have no financial or business interest in this issue, which I have been blogging about for at least a year and a half.

I support completing the 241 because it is a good project and a necessary element to our regional transportation infrastructure. Plus, I think the opposition to it has been hysterical and dishonest.

Bill

I'm so glad to see Republicans coming together on one of the few issues we still have public support for - Traffic Relief.

I never understood why two So. Cal. Democrats like Sanchez and Davis would have tried to kill this road anyway.

Especially Sanchez, who's district would have more labor Dems than enviro Dems I'd guess. Must be marching orders from the San Francisco Speaker.

Political Insider

This surely set the tone for 2010: Sanchez voted for more traffic gridlock, Tran worked to bring you home faster to your family.

Oh and Jeff Miller got some free media out of this press conference, good for him.

The only traffic that is going to be relieved is the traffic created by more cookie cutter ugly developments. there is no significant traffic to speak of in that area right now.

d'Anconia

"there is no significant traffic to speak of in that area right now."

Really? I guess I must be imagining the 405 and the 5 turning into a parking lots 2 hours before rush hour is supposed to start.

"Really? I guess I must be imagining the 405 and the 5 turning into a parking lots 2 hours before rush hour is supposed to start."

d' Anconia you just made my arguement for me. The 405 and 5 El Toro Y is nowhere near the propsed 241 extension route. The propsed alignment will do absolutely nothing to relieve traffic at the El Toro Y. The only direct consequence for this toll road extension is a multi-million if not billion dollar subsidy for developers along south orange county. No releif will be realized in the areas that need it. In fact the residents in those areas will be footing the bill for this welfare subsidy to the rich.

Milk Man

Anon 11:44, wow are you blind or do you just not drive at all in Southern California? Why don't you take a drive on the 405 North from Dana Point to Costa Mesa on Tuesday at around 4:00 pm and then tell me if there is no "significant traffic to speak of".

I want to spend more time with my family and there only thing standing in the way is you radical environmentalist.

d'Anconia

Anon:

I don't see how I made your argument for you. Maybe in your head I did, but that doesn't make it so.

"The only direct consequence for this toll road extension is a multi-million if not billion dollar subsidy for developers along south orange county."

I'm impressed! Straight out of the Save San Onofre and Save Trestles talking points.

Since when did we start treating development as the devil? It used to be that governments would encourage private dollar investments in their region, now this?

Milk man youre not very observant are you. You just stated that the drive NORTH from Dana POint is where you need traffic releif. This toll road extension is far south of that area. And why by the way is a resident of Little Saigon arguing for the building of a toll road at the furthest extremes of the county to the south?

I mean seriously not one of you can argue with accuracy any traffic relief that is going to be relieved by this toll road except for the traffic that is created when the lands adjacent to this road to no where are opened up for development beause Hey Guess what? We got a road here now!

Jubal,
On 8/31/07 at 4:52 pm you were asked some questions that you did not answer. I would like to ask these questions again for some clarification on this issue.

1)Where exactly was this press conference held?

2)Also, why were you invited to the helicopter ride?

3) At what time does the traffic in the particular spot where this conference was filmed begin to pile up?

I would also like to ask the following follow up questions:

1)Who arranged for the helicopter tour of the alignment route?
2) Who paid for the helicopter tour of the alignment route?

d'Anconia

The real question is why should Jubal stand to be questioned by a bunch of anons?

d'Anconia;
I like my Red Herrings with a rosemary seasoning and a side of Chianti. Nice deflection attemp there.

d'Anconia

Deflection?

I'm not being questioned, Jubal is.

I just gave my 2 cents.

Art Pedroza

d'anconia,

"The real question is why should Jubal stand to be questioned by a bunch of anons?" High comedy! Wasn't that long ago that Jubal HIMSELF was an anon. And this blog still has six anons in its blogpen.

Cow

Anon, who are you to be clarifying anything? Are you a reporter that is trying to cite some sources or one of those tree-huggers that showed up at the press conference but couldn't find anything useful?

Cow no Im not a reporter. And no I was not atthe press conference. Had I been at the press conference I would know where the press conference was held. Agin I would ask of you why a resident of Little Saigon area is so interested in the 241 toll road extension. but beofre this thread gets bureid under a pile of ad hominem attacks by Little Saigon residents I would like to re-ask Jubal the following questions;

Look! Karl Marx is still alive!

In fact the residents in those areas will be footing the bill for this welfare subsidy to the rich.

And I suppose you have a way top build roadways that only people below a certain income level are allowed to use?
