Pat Brennan over at Total Buzz posted this exhaustive account of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. ranting about the apocalyptic consequences of completing the 241 tollroad and his environmentalism uber alles philosophy in general. I hope he arrived at the event via bicycle -- or at least drove an electric car.
Judging from the extremist rhetoric, I think ole' Bobby Jr. has seen Soylent Green one too many times -- talked with his cousin Bobby Shriver one too many times. Or both.
I'm surprised Kennedy didn't predict completing the 241 would lead to the destruction of human civilization and our domination by talking apes.
Then again, he might think that's a good thing.
Perfect! My favorite line in the movie! It's best seen as a double feature with Bruce Dern in "Silent Running".

There was a passionate editorial in the Financial Times about four weeks ago written by the current president of the Czech Republic in which he argued that the greatest current threat to individual freedom in the West is not from radical Islam, it is from the environmental movement. Coming from a man who was at the forefront of fighting for freedom during the cold war that is a sobering assessment. Your post would seem to support his position.

Have you read any of RFK Jr's articles in Rolling Stone lately. His articles are well researched and loaded with attribution; it would be a mistake to dismiss what he says on partisan grounds.

I haven't read his articles. But AI read that rant and it's way over-the-top -- like this RFK eruption at Live Earth:
"Get rid of all these rotten politicians that we have in Washington, who are nothing more than corporate toadies," said Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the environmentalist author, president of Waterkeeper Alliance and Robert F. Kennedy's son, who grew hoarse from shouting. "This is treason. And we need to start treating them as traitors."
And there's nothing partisan about my attitude toward RFK Jr. His party registration is immaterial to me.

"A good example is the (proposed Foothill South) toll road. It's going to enrich a few developers by impoverishing the population of California, diminishing the quality of life. But it's also going to impoverish the state. It's a bad economic choice, for the reason that it's a bad use of resources."
Who is he trying to kid? Talk about sensationalism. One 15 mile strecth of roadway is going to "impoverish all of California"? Its going to "destroy the economy of the state"?
And the enviros wonder why more and more of the mainstream population is getting fed up with their propaganda and nonsense. They are truely demonstrating how far out in left field they really are, and most Americans are beginning to see just how ludicrous and nutty they have become. But then again, when toads, lizards and fairy shrimp are more important than human beings, then it is clear that we are not dealing with people who are playing with a full deck. And aren't these the same ones who think and support all of those that mandate that we build more houses? Where should we build them? On the moon?
Give me a break.

Whoa, boy. Respect the Kennedys unless you feel like taking on the CIA, the Mafia, the Irish Mafia, the Freemasons, and an army of loyal, discreet mistresses.
