I just received the first election mail piece for the California Republican Party Board of Directors election. It's coming up at the February '07 Convention. OC's own uber-blogger--both here and at the FlashReport--Jon Fleischman is vying to become the next Regional Vice Chairman for the Southern Region. The region includes Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial Counties. It's a great gig if you enjoy party politics. I know, as I just vacated the post last February.
My appointed replacement, Warene Wall, is also running, she is from San Diego. Based on the mailer, Jon already has Riverside and Orange Counties' chairmen with him. Not only are they endorsing him, but they are Co-Chairing his campaign--not bad company for Flash to have on his side! San Diego's Chairman, Ron Nehring, is staying neutral as he runs for CRP Chairman.
It looks, however, like Jon's pulled in some serious support from others in SD, despite drawing a SD opponent. The piece has quotations supporting Jon from San Diegans including Assemblyman-elect Joel Anderson and Congressman Darrell Issa. He's also listed endorsements from SD officials like Congressman Duncan Hunter, and State Senators Dennis Hollingsworth and Mark Wyland. That'd be a good group to have with you no matter where you were from--it'll be particularly helpful, I imagine, given that Jon is not from SD.
For OC's electeds, it is almost unanimous. He has: Congressmen Calvert, Campbell, Miller, Rohrabacher, and Royce; Senators Ackerman, Daucher (+302 as of this post!), and Harman; and Assemblymen DeVore, Duvall, Huff, Silva, Spitzer, Tran, and Assemblywoman Walters (very reliable sources tell me Todd Spitzer has endorsed, but was inadvertently omitted)--it's a powerful list, and that doesn't even include the Riverside electeds listed.
In CRP races, electeds' endorsements are particularly important, as it is their appointees that vote. Both Warene and Jon are forceful GOP advocates with years of experience in the trenches. The Southern Region, including Orange County, looks to be well served for the next cycle. But, given the folks flocking to Jon's campaign, he's had a great start to this race.
Warene is dust. We need an alert GOP Regional Vice Chairman...not a puppet.
