Mike Lawson of TheLiberalOC wrote an interesting and informative post yesterday about the Westminster School District Race, and I encourage our readers to read it.
Mike also reproduces part of a mailer from the Our Children-Our Vote Coalition Committee which claims that Westminster School District Trustee Judy Ahrens is "financed by the WTA [Westminster Teachers Union."
Judy Ahrens e-mailed me regarding this mailer and the issues surrounding the election:
You may or may not know that I am running for re-election to the Westminster School District, which drew attention in 2004 for battling the State Department of Education over their definition of the word "gender," which Mark Bucher helped us resolve in victory. I was also the swing vote that drew attention recently for rejecting Dr. Lam, who would have become the first Asian Superintendent in the USA, because she failed to disclose financial contributions made to fellow trustees on our board, which ruined the integrity of the process.
Their is a liberal slate comprised of "Marquez, Fisher, and Tran" who are campaigning on the main message that they want to re-instate Dr. Lam as the Westminster Superintendent, despite her lack of integrity and having no prior experience. This week, the slate put out a mailer to the homes in Westminster that surprisingly attacked the Teacher's Union for demanding lots of benefits. In the mailer, if you look closely, they falsely list the names of every other candidate in the race and identify them as being "financed by the WTA."
I've never been financed by the Westminster Teacher's Association. I thought this lie and tactic might be interesting to your blog.
I've also attached one of my recent mailers in case you want to post them side-by-side so people can see that I've clearly identified who I am endorsed and supported by.
Here are the mailers:
I'd prefer a school board member who understood the difference between "their" and "there."

This is an interesting race. On one side, you have Judy Ahrens who represents the conservative voice on the WSD Board; then there is the teacher's union who is also running 3 candidates of their own with very little qualifications: a retired police officer, a parent and a school custodian; the last waring faction is the Dr. Lam's group, which is a liberal coalition that has the backing of Correa and Sanchez.
You would think that the union would be supportive of Dr. Lam since she is a partisan Democrat, but stranger things has happened in this school district.
I hope the voters will re-elect Judy Ahrens.
