This came over the transom yesterday from the Orange County Young Republicans:
The Republican Party Should Endorse Bates for Supervisor
Pat Bates has a well-earned reputation as one of California’s most accomplished public servants. For nearly 20 years, Pat has been a champion for Republican values and she has a record to prove it.
After serving as founding Mayor of Laguna Niguel, Pat Bates took her talents and our principles with her to the State Assembly where she authored and supported quality legislation on crime, education and many other issues. More importantly, she consistently stood up for Republican principles opposing taxes, benefits for illegal immigrants and more when others chose to compromise. Imagine what the Board of Supervisors will be able to accomplish for Orange County with a leader like Pat Bates.
Pat Bates has a RECORD that Republicans can TRUST. She is a leader Orange County can count on.
Pat’s opponent, Real Estate Attorney Cassie DeYoung, is making a desperate attempt to convince people otherwise through her hypocrisy and deception instead of debating the real issues.
The Republican Party must hold candidates accountable to their record and word. The GOP can be sure of the difference between Bates’ record and DeYoung’s word. DeYoung’s recent speech to the South Orange County Democratic Club included a statement making it clear that she would be their voice on the Board of Supervisors.
This is a non-partisan race and DeYoung is perfectly justified in reaching out to all voters, but she is still accountable for the things she says when speaking to non-Republican partisan organizations – especially when those comments are derogatory against the Republican Party and its most respected leaders. Pat Bates too has been reaching out to non-partisan voters, but unlike DeYoung, she has not betrayed her Party or its principles in the process.
Orange County Young Republicans strongly supports and encourages the Republican Party of Orange County to join respected Republican leaders such as Congressman Ed Royce and Supervisor-Elect John Moorlach by endorsing the right candidate, Pat Bates, for Supervisor in the 5th District.
