Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (Texas), out of the house for the last term and now a consultant and think tank official in Washington, has written an interesting piece in today's Washington Post, here. Armey, who now runs a think tank and policy organization known as Freedom Works, offers an interesting look at his view about what went right and what went wrong on what he believes is the Republican path from the Contract with America in 1994 to today - 12 years and 6 congressional elections later.
If things go well in 8 days, his points are somewhat moot. If they don't , Orange County's delegation -- and their Republican colleagues -- will likely use the lessons discussed in this piece as a starting point in plotting their return two years hence.
How interesting and sad that nowhere within his analysis does the congressman acknowledge his own lack of leadership and personal responsibility. Rather than providing an assessment of where his brethren erred, Armey would be well-served to fall on the sword/grenade/van full of illegal aliens crossing the border and admit that he played a critical role in the leadership's hubris and lack of focus over the past six years.
