If someone asks Barbaro about the Otto stuff, I'm sure he would denounce it. Why don't you call him and ask him? Or are you too busy whining and calling him a demagogue for speaking his mind?

Jubal: Steel said what the press release says.

This is from the LA Times, 10/9/2006
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-anaheim9oct09,0,5233676.story?coll=la-home-headlines

Steel, the state GOP leader from 2001 to 2003, said he wrote the letter to alert fellow conservatives that Dalati — a moderate Republican — could be a "Manchurian candidate."

"He looks good on the outside, but the guy could be an extremist," Steel said Friday. "Is his primary concern to fix the potholes and improve the city, or does he really have an agenda here to support extremist organizations and cloak them with respectability?"

Jubal

If someone asks Barbaro about the Otto stuff, I'm sure he would denounce it.

Suddenly, Frank's a shrinking violet?

Scott Baugh didn't need to be asked to come out and denounce Tan.

Jubal

Look again at the paragraph Levin/Barbaro wrote and then again at the Steel letter. Shawn did not say Dalati is "an Islamic extremist because he is an Arab of Syrian birth and a Muslim."

That allegation in the OC Dem press release is made up out of whole cloth.

OK, where was Baugh denouncing Tan at the Supes meeting or the Assembly hearing? He's been hiding from the cameras far more than Frank B.

The Dems do not use quotes in the release.

In September of this year, former State Republican Party Chair Shawn Steel made national news by characterizing Republican candidate for Anaheim City Council Bill Dalati as an Islamic extremist because he is an Arab of Syrian birth and a Muslim. As Democrats in Orange County, we are proud to welcome Bill Dalati to our Party.

Steel said:
-Dalati could be a "Manchurian candidate"
-Dalati "looks good on the outside, but the guy could be an extremist"
-"does [Dalati] really have an agenda here to support extremist organizations and cloak them with respectability?"

From where I'm standing, it's fair to say that Steel is "characterizing...Dalati as a Muslim extremist."

Why would good old Shawn have done this? It probably has something to do with his Muslim heritage and his Syrian birth.

Stop making excuses and get the GOP's collective head out of it's collective you-know-what.

Jubal

"Fair to say"...

No it's not fair to say that Steel said Dalati is an extermeist because he's Mulsim and was born in Syrian. Why? Because that's not what Steel said.

For Levin and Barbaro to say otherwise is a untruth.

Steel clearly characterized Dalati as an extremist to be scared of. "Something Scary in Anaheim," remember? Get over the semantics and see the bigger picture. Until your party stops being the last bastion for religious intolerance, you will lose good folks like Dalati to the other side.

Jubal

WEAK!

Scott was out in front calling on Tan to withdraw. He's been frequently quoted in the media saying as much, and has been blasted by Tan (not to mention John & Ken) for doing so.

And you're only response is he didn't show up at a Democratic denounce-the-GOP-rally to denounce the GOP, or at the Board of Supes meeting to consider Lou Correa's proposal for a taxpayer-funded Democratic GOTV program?

SHAWN STEEL

But the three questions Dalati, the democrats, like Kerry, keep avoiding:

1. Why did Dalati participate in a Palestinian Martyrs Rally in 2000, on behalf of suicide bombers killing Israeli civilians?

Should worry Democrat Jews

2. Why did Dalati support Sharia Islamic Law that would have given a Muslim wife $30.00 in stead of the 1.5 million?

That should worry Democrat women.

3. Finally, why did Dalati participate in a rally this July 29, in Anaheim, self entitled an "An Anti American-Israeli Terror Rally" when Israel was defending itself from Hezbollah attacks?

Should worry pro-American democrats.

But you will not hear Dalati responding. He avoids debating me. He avoids talking about his history.

He is using the cowardly Jesse Jackson RACE CARD, to hide his beliefs. That won't wash in Orange County.

Instead of running for City Council, he should run for Foreign Minister of Anaheim.

As Mario Savio, once said, "Good riddance to bad rubbish".

Shawn Steel

Shawn: do you or do you not think Dalati is an Islamic extremist?

Art Pedroza

Would the OC Democrats also take Tan Nguyen, Otto Bade, Carlos Bustamante? We don't want them in our party any more!

Elias

Good move, I'm glad he is heading towards the Democratic Party. As for those stating he was in this "Terrorist" protest? How stupid are you? As I’m certain of mr.Dalati standing firm and not really paying attention to these sorry attempts at degrading him. I never really met the guy, nor am I of a Muslim religion. But he has my vote!

Bladerunner

Art, we want YOU!

Art Pedroza is a closet Dem!

Art is doing everything he can to help Democrat buddy of Nativo Lopez, Sal Tinajero, get elected to the S.A. city council by trashing his more moderate Dem. opponant Jennifer Villasenor and saying he supports a Republican who has raised zero dollars in the race to take votes from Jennifer. Shame on you Art and go join Otto, Carlos,Tan and Dalati because you are the biggest Donkey of the all!!!

Brett Nemeth

Thank you Shawn Steel! Although it was pointing out the obvious, you deserve credit for standing up and taking the heat.

I was dissapointed in how Curt Pringle responded. Normally, he gets it!

Well, Dalati did give money to Cynthia McKinney, so it seems entirely appropriate that he go hang out in McKinney's party. Call it "truth in advertising." We'll see how well McKinney's antisemitic, anti-war politics play in Anaheim. And I guess it should be no suprise that someone who gives money to McKinney would now cooperate with local Democrats in accusing Republicans of racism. In that respect, Democrats are kind of like a one-trick pony. Seems to me, the guy was probably a left-wing lib to big with, but only registered as a Republican for the purpose of winning public office in Republican Orange County.

Torah Tommy

I don't think the GOP is intolerant of Dalati's faith. It was the money he contributed to McKinney that cost him the endorsement. Does criticism from one Rep. consitute an effort by the entire pary against him? Of course not. Will the Dem. party tolerate negative comments against Israel? Of course it will.

Say it ain't so Timmy

To Anon poster/Tim Whitacre on October 31, 2006 at 09:54 PM.

If Art walked as many precincts for Sal as you walked for Jennifer, you might have an issue.

HOWEVER,

Your name is listed as an endorser of not only Jennifer, but also Fortino and David.

All Democrats.

PS. Saw you tearing down recall signs on the tube last night.

Did you know that is a felony?

Town Crier

So, the hot news item concerning the Anaheim City Council election today is that Bill Dalati will be re-registering as a Democrat. Hmmm. Let's see now. Bill Dalati has been actively supported throughout his campaign by the two Democrats on the Anaheim City Council - Council Member Lorri Galloway and Mayor Pro Tem Richard Chavez. Now, let's see - Good Old Mayor Curt Pringle, a "registered" Republican, has and continues to actively support Democrats Galloway and Chavez. Wonder when Curt will be "re-registering" as a Democrat!

Nothing ever changes, indeed

If the GOP continues to be represented by folks like Mr. Steel, Pringle might just flip.

Steel is completely out of touch with mainstream Californians.

The "Orange Curtain" is a myth perpetuated by Republican hacks.

This is STILL blue state California.

Pringle gets it; Steel does not.

Jubal

If the GOP continues to be represented by folks like Mr. Steel, Pringle might just flip.

I don't know what's in your office tap water, but it's causing you to hallucinate.

Debbie ONeill

PRingle has already flipped. He is supporting Richard Chavez ( dem) for Anaheim City Council; he supported Galloway (dem) for Anaheim City Council. Dalati told everyone that would listen that PRingle was giving him lessons in how the city was run.

PRingle is Out Of Control in Anaheim he has taken the voice away from the people. Mr. Potato Chip loves to his name in the paper he loves what the city of Anaheim has done for him. He has forgotten that Anaheim made PRingle and PRingle didn’t make Anaheim.

He will do anything to keep his votes on the City Council so he can continue to be the Mayor of the Platinum Triangle and Disneyland.

Maybe it would be a blessing for PRingle to become a Dem o rat. Because Rat he already is.

Husam

Dear Bill,
Best regards from family member from Cz republic
Husam Dalati
