Well, Cunningham has stepped in it now: His new venture, Red County Magazine, has generously agreed to sponsor California's premier half marathon on December 2, in Irvine, and Matt's agreed to "run" it. As has Red County editor-in-chief Scott Graves.
Neither Matt nor Scott has run around the block in the last dozen years or so much less 13.1 miles. There is, however, plenty of time to slowly train up to the distance, beginning with a two mile walk run each day for the next ten, gradually getting the walking out.
You too can join these couch potatos, and me --often mistaken by animals for a shrub as I am that slow-- in the half marathon. Go here and sign up, and set the alarm.
You don't have to be fast. Just stubborn
You can start training this Sunday by running/walking in the Susan Komen Race for the Cure 5K at Fashion Island. The co-ed run starts at 9:35 a.m. www.ockomen.com
An admirable goal for Dec. 2 would be to finish the 1/2 marathon "before" the U$C @ UCLA football game which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at the Rose Bowl (in case you're still puking).

The topic of Matt Cunningham running in a marathon came up this evening at Drinking Liberally, and it took me a few minutes to understand that Jubal is running in a real race, and not a political race.
Maybe I had one to many.
Good luck with that, Matt.

Muchas gracias, Mike. I'll do my best not to die in the process.

Are you guys running this year? See you at the starting line on Dec. 8. And about 2.5 hours at the finish line after that.
