Assemblyman Spitzer hasn't even won his final 2 years in Sacramento (he could get 90% of the vote in November is he really wanted to) and the candidates for his 71st Assembly DIstricts are already lining up.
Today your own Orange County Public Administrator - Public Guardian, South Orange County Community College District Trusteee and Republican Central Committee Member John WIlliam filed to open a committee and to start raising money for a 2008 run for the 71st Assembly District.
Williams is a likable guy and has lots of credibiltiy having run a tight ship both at the college district and for the last four years at the county.
But there are several other possible candidates for the post including Orange Mayor Mark Murphy, Councilman Jon Dumitru, and Councilwoman Carolyn Cavecche. OC Water District Board Member and Orange Councilman to be Denis Bilodeau is also a prospect.
Both DA Rackauckas and Sheriff Carona would have very good chances if they decided to run, both of them, like Williams would be running from safe seats since they all won re-election this year (Willaims and Rackauckas were unopposed).
I've heard Mark Bucher's name thrown around for the 71st in 08. Bucher is a successful businessman, central committee member and conservative leader.
Ok who did I miss? Mission Viejo Councilman Frank Ury. Good point. Anyone else?
You forgot Corona Councilman Jeff Miller.

Hey your forgot JP Ledesma (MVO,
I agree with amost all your predictations...looks like Orange is a farm team....should be interesting if they all decided to run at the same time for the seat

I'd love to see Bucher run, just so we can see who the unions would try to recruit to run against him...Maybe they'll rent an apartment in Orange for Dave Shawver and have him run!

Jamie Spitzer is a shoe in for the 71st

JP should worry about getting re-elected instead of looking for higher office.

If Mark Bucher runs, I'm in that camp; no doubt.
Ury and Ledesma of MV are both VERY POOR options. The former can't get enough of himself (even for a politician; he's also supporting someone for MV council who no doubt voted for Kerry, Gore, Boxer and Feinstein). The latter doesn't have enough fortitude.

I would vote for Dumitrue (Orange), if he could raise the money to run a solid campaign. I like the guy.
