OCfIRE, GOT A VICTORY CIGAR FOR ME?

Allan Bartlett

Sorry about that fireguys. Now shake hands with the all the deputies and go have some beers together to make up.

Powder Blue Report

I'm too cautious to gloat at this point, but I hope the initial soundly-defeated numbers hold up when the final outcome is tallied and announced!

No surprise that Ah-nold's propositions are initially successful here in OC, but it's statewide that matters on those.

I'm sorry all this between the foundation-savers and the gun-toters got so ugly, but it wasn't law enforcement's doing. The smoke-eaters initiated this party gone wrong.

From the OC Register's Blog:

D is for dead

It was 8:15 p.m. when Jeff Flint, who managed the campaign for Measure D, sent Jon Fleishman, the sheriff's aide, a "congratulations on D" text message. It's over for D. John Lewis, who managed the No on D campaign, is celebrating. The numbers are too overwhelming. The firefighters overreached. But this will probably be the only celebrating tonight at the party, given the final polls on the statewide ballots. Some hope on Proposition 75, however, as it is holding a lead in early statewide voting. Of course, as Mark Bucher, who has been active in the campaign, said, it's the only measure that really matters.

Ouch — the firefighters union got spanked.

I can't help but feel a little Schadenfreude here. Heh heh heh.

Veni, vidi, we kicked *ss...night all, thanks for the love!

JozefColomy

You know what's really ironic? The pro-D people spent so much money promoting D that they could have just used to fix the "problems" that they were complaining about, but now they're pretty much S.O.L.

Green Machine

I won't gloat to much....it was an ugly battle and we've got a pension fight looming in the next year that will require teamwork on all sides...hopefully OCFA will have their bills paid by then, so they can join us in the fight (sorry couldn't resist).

A special thanks to the Sheriff and the two candidates who took a PUBLIC stance on Measure D. You showed the lone holdout what real leadership is all about.

OC Firestorm: If nothing else came of this cops vs. firefighters battle, it's been fun debating...stay safe!

OC Fire Storm

Yeah, it's been fun. Now I can go back to mowing my lawn, cleaning my garage and the other honey-do's I should have been taking care of.

Be careful out there!

reality check

Let's all toast John Lewis (who?). But for him, D would have passed (what?). Let's all recognize Greenhut for what he is: party hack, nothing more. Not a libertarian. Not even a conservative. Party hack. D is for doomed. Like all initiatives, generally, which Californians properly reject. Let's not give credit where it's not due. Let's get serious about advocating policies that promote growth and opportunity, not policies that promote insular power. G: how about 77, want to leave redistricting to the legislators? Think Judge Wapner was right?

The firefighters got beat. That's how politics goes sometimes.

But looking at some of the reactions, I can wager some of those gloating have finally got into the end zone for the first time.

Pretty funny, yet sad to watch.

Green Machine:

Sorry dude but once again, you're delusional!

What EXACTLY DID Mike Carona do to help Measure D pass, besides put his name on a list of supporters?

DID he personally raise the $100K he promised?

No one ever has been able to verify that he was seen at a public or private event in the last 6 months, specifically to encourage voters to vote "NO".

Spin all you want, but the truth is that it was the hard-working men and women that he abandoned, along with other law enforcement allies, who deserve the credit for this win!!!

Carona should be ashamed of himself for his lack of leadership on Measure D.

On the other hand, our DA, Tony Rack, deserves credit for his ACTIVE PARTICIPATION in the campaign.

I hope that Police and Fire can mend the fences together and move forward after this ugly fight that never should have been.

Crow is better eaten with humility and grace.

Green Machine

Whitacre,

It must be awful hard sitting on the outside with Bill Hunt, watching the men and women of AOCDS win this battle without him. He chose (under your mismanagement)to stay out of the fight. He chose to cozy up to the OCPFFA and he chose not take a public stance on Measure D....you can continue to cry about the Sheriff, but you can't blame him for "YOUR" failure.

We won this fight with the help of a lot of good people, both inside and outside of AOCDS. Sheriff Carona was one of those people. Maybe not to the degree that would satisfy you, but certainly more than Bill Hunt provided.

You and I both know why Bill Hunt abandoned us. He may gain OCFFPA's endorsement, but we'll see how much it's worth after this overwhelming defeat! Bill should've stuck with what he knows best....being a cop. As a politician he's out of his element and as a leader he's failed the people whose support he needs the most.

Do Bill a favor. Change his tactics and try a positive approach. Your hate filled diatribes are doing absolutely nothing but turning more people off.

No crow eating here. I'm not part of either camp. Just commenting on the juvenile reactions of the winners.

The firefighters lost. Does anyone really believe no one is going to want their support in the June primary? Plus, the state organization kicked our ass statewide, in case you haven't noticed. Because of the statewide Props, they didn't have the resources to commit to OC. Don't think that didn't make a difference.

I believe the No on D team was fortunate this issue was on a special election. Had it waited till the June primary it might have been a different story. But it lost, and it lost big.

Remember. Pride is a deadly sin.

BW- I never lose, so I wouldn't know what it's like to be a "good loser", but sheesh...what selection of cheese would you like with that whiiiine? Are you gonna hold your breath till you turn blue now?

PS- Finally, I can get back to hating Greenhut. Whew!

Jason

reality check:

That makes no sense. If he's not a party hack for the libertarians, and he's not a party hack for the conservatives (assuming that means GOP), just who is he a party hack for? The Democrats? The Constitution Party? One needs to relentlessly flaunt a party-line position in order to be a party hack. So whose party line is he hacking for?

OC Fire Storm

So whose party line is he hacking for?

His own.

Jason

So whose party line is he hacking for?

Awesome, the All Greenhut, All The Time Party! How come I've never heard of it before? Who's got the voter re-registration form? Better yet, get me a party submission form, I've got at least three people who would love to join my new Dudes Named Jason Party! We can all be party hacks for our own parties, woohoo!

Unless of course, that's not what party hack actually means. But it appears that YMMV.

Tim Whitacre

Green Machine:

Sorry dude, but once again, you've got it backwards - as usual.

All the staff at GOP Headquarters and numerous Central Committee Members ACTUALLY SAW Bill Hunt either there, helping prepare signs and materials, or out in precincts with a solid group of supporters, advocating for both NO on Measure D AND the Reform Propositions.

That's a fact that makes you look nothing but REAL stupid to try and dispute.

On the other hand, NO ONE SAW Mike Carona at any public or private event in the last 6 months, specifically there to encourage voters to vote NO on Measure D. Carona also did ABSOULUTELY NOTHING for the Reform Propsitions.

Of course, Carona showed up last night at the celebration party AFTER he received the news that Measure D was going to fail.

What a leader...

I do understand your frustration and feel your pain, Green Machine. However, there comes a time when you must face the truth, accept it, and grow from it.

Stop lying it doesn't suit you.

Semper Fi,

Tim Whitacre

Green Machine

Whitacre,

There is no lie in the fact that Bill Hunt couldn't even put a No On D banner on his website. I asked you about it and you said it would never happen....yes on 75 was okay...but "No On Measure D"???forget about that right??

Bill Hunt's efforts during the election were nothing more than an attempt to sway the repbulican party and fracture the party like he has done with AOCDS and the Republican Womens organization. His "covert" support of Measure D, by melting in with the statewide propostions is underwhelming.

by the way, Bill could have come by the No On D celebration and displayed a little bit of support for the men and women of AOCDS. But god forbid he wind up in a photo with the No On D people. If the firefighters got wind of that he might lose their endorsement....not that its worth much at the moment.

Since the firefighters make $60K more than you, I would say you're already beaten.

redperegrine

"Since the firefighters make $60K more than you, I would say you're already beaten."

Petulant and childish.

It may be that the public is finally savvy about the emergency service providers' gravy train. If that's true, then we'll all be winners.

Blog Watcher

RP. Give it a rest. I doubt emergency service workers make anything near this.

Greenhut posted a number with no detail.

Because if it's true, I want an application.

One need only go online and look at the salary ranges for deputies and firefighters and know Greenhut might have stretched the truth a bit.

Like I said. I would like to see the numbers making up his assertion.

Blog Watcher- Sorry, you need to have something hanging to be a cop or firescab. Thanks anyway.
