A day after Matthew Cunningham posts a congratulatory piece for the City of Newport Beach on the FR Blog, and four days after the Daily Pilot's story ran, the Register wrote up this little bit in its local breaking news section:
Speak up
NEWPORT BEACH — The city wants input from residents on the future of the Marina Park property at Balboa Boulevard and 16th Street. Voters in 2004 rejected plans for a hotel at the site. New proposals for developing the land will be reviewed by the City Council next year. To see the proposals, go to ci.newport-beach.ca.us/Marinapark.html To comment, go to marinapark.blogspot.com.
That's one step closer to fostering an active public discourse.
I also see that the city has instructed its web technician to put a link to the blog on the Newport Beach website homepage (lower left corner). A nice, simple logo would increase visibility of the link. It's not difficult. It also isn't difficult for people like Mr. Cunningham and me to stop granting free advice to a local government that's making what seems to be a half-cocked attempt at modernization.
I agree with Silence. This Matthew Cunningham should stick to his day job. Newport Beach residents don't need his advice.
