>I suspect this boycott has more to do with >Gilchrist< bankruptcy and weird and contradictory statements about candidates and policies he supports<
You're probably right, however ...
>John Campbell will be there tonight<
I find that odd; except for J&K Show, JC has avoided all forums (including the one televised on Cox Cable).

John Campbell doesn't need to go to "debates" such as the one last night that was a complete joke. He picks his battles and has won all of them so far.

Perhaps Uncle Jimmy bailed because he didn't want to take questions about his newest anti-Campbell mail-piece that is slandrous to Marilyn Brewer magnitude?

Either way, all I know is that if JimG really wants to show himself to the people of the 48th he had better start debating his competition. John Campbell may not have hit EVERY debate, but he hasn't RSVPed and then bailed for any of them either. If Uncle Jimmy is going to chastise Senator Campbell he needs to put his money where his mouth is and start slandering the man to his face, at the very least.

>>Campbell< picks his battles and has won all of them so far<

Yeah, and it's too bad he won his first battle when he financially muscled Dick Ackerman out of this race simply because no one would support JC to be Senate Republican Leader; I can't imagine why they didn't, after all, JC sat in that senate seat for all of, what, 5 months.

Gilchrist is like the Jr High School ( I guess the PC folks call them middle schools now ) bully. He can dish it out but if you punch back he runs for his mommy's apron strings.

In the last few weeks Gilchrist has become an even larger joke. Even J/K have lost interest in this circus sideshow.

True, but it can also be said,
JCambell is like the Jr High bully. He can dish it out but if you punch back he runs for his bank account.

Gilchrist can always reach for his bank account too, as long as the court appointed receiver allows that kind of expense.

Or as long as he can write it off as expenses for the Minutemen escapade...

As for the length of tenure, it really has no bearing on the quality of the candidate. I mean, Senator Campbell saw his opportunity and went with it. The fact that he has the endorsement and support of many State Senate and Assembly members shows that he is truly a good Senator and past-Assemblyman, and the fact that he has the support of such esteemed folks such as Vice President Cheney, Speaker Hastert, Majority Whip Blunt, and several other members of the Federal government tells us that he is the right man for the people of both California's 48th CD and for America as a whole.

"he [John Campbell] has the support of such esteemed folks such as Vice President Cheney, Speaker Hastert, Majority Whip Blunt, and several other members of the Federal government.."

So why is this such a good thing? Are you telling me that Campbell vote with those who have given us:

A prescription drug welfare program?
A pork-laden transportation bill?
A pork-laden energy bill?
A war based upon intelligence which has been found wrong in every respect with no one held to account and one person [Tenet] given a medal?

Is this what we can expect from John Campbell? After all, he seems indebted to those that have been responsible for each of these. I really wish I could vote for Campbell and 10 years ago I would have.

Give me a break! Ackerman would have had the same reception nationally and better represented CD48 and would likely have won outright on Oct 4 if Campbell hadn't jumped in the race because Ackerman didn't carry the weak immigration baggage like Campbell.

Go Gilchrist! We all know the second time around Campbell is going to fail in bright colors, no one is even running for his state seat. That is a real signal. Do we want the fat-albert "Steve Young" to win because we are so proud that we can't see the real winner. Gilchrist is our chance of conservatism left in the county. No one is going to let Campbell win, he lost his chance, it is over.

Gilchrist must win, Campbell will be defeated by Young!

You know what? I agree.

Campbell muscled Ackerman out because Campbell represents a much larger portion of the Congressional district than Ackerman ever has, and has significantly higher name ID there. Having the same ballot title, lower name ID, and a smaller war chest is a bad recipe for a campaign.

Go Gilchrist. Stop when you hit the border. :-)

Logical,
Ackerman is a terrible fundraiser, most of the major donors don't like him, he has no presence in the 48th, and he has only been in one contested race in his life (against Chris Norby in the 72nd Assembly). If Campbell had not gotten into the race, former Sen. John Lewis was planning on running against Ackerman and Brewer. Lewis would have defeated Ackerman without breaking much of a sweat.
