The FlashReport Blog beefed up its Orange County coverage this week, adding public affairs/blog consultant Matthew Cunningham to the FR blogpen, joining pollster Adam Probolsky. He's already posted on the spread of the Anaheim freedom revolution, the 72nd AD race, and candidate positioning in the 35th and 34th Senate races.
All to the good, I say. The more blogosphere coverage of what's happening here in Orange County, the better.
I also noticed Mr. Fleischman has added the inimitable Phil Paule -- frequent OC Blog commenter and tormenter of Allan Bartlett -- as his Riverside County blogger. I'm looking forward to those posts.
Congrats to Jon for a fine blogpen that he has assembled. FR is definately a goto website.

The addition of campaign pro Phil Paule is a big upgrade over at the FlashReport. Unlike some of the other FR bloggers, Phil Paule has actually run successful camapigns - lots of them in fact - over the years.

Well, the STINGER out of Cunningham's piece on the 34th is that it is "RUMORED" that Senator Republican Leader Dick Ackerman is trying to clear the field for Lynn Daucher... Has anyone heard this? Could it be true?
Has she changed her stripes? Last I checked she opposes McClintock's 'anti-Kelo decision' measure to protect private property owners, she is unabashidly pro-choice, and believes Democrats should vote in GOP primaries.
Ackerman, on the other hand, is pro-property rights, is pro-life, and believes in party members choosing a nominee.
So, what are we missing here?

Gee, just in time to ramp up for the OC Sheriff’s race (Fleischman is also Corona’s spokesman at the Sheriff Department.) No doubt the duties he should be attending to, his taxpayer paid position, will keep him busy so he’ll need a hand running the blog.

There go those Hunt supporters AGAIN. Attack, attack, attack. If you want to insinuate that Fleischman is running FR on County Time, then prove it! Otherwise, it's just more cheap rhetoric.
Must you trash everyone who doesn't drink Bill Hunt's Kool-Aid?

It's all true about Ackerman backing liberals over conservatives.
Not only is he backing Liberal Lynn Daucher in SD 34 (over Van Tran), he is also trying to recruit an opponent to conservative Supervisor Chris Norby.

Would someone be kind enough to explain the frequent kool-aid references on this blog?

Dave,
I'll take a whack at your question. The kool-aid references come from an event that happened back in 1978. Here is a good link to read about the story. Anyway, a guy named Jim Jones made his followers down in South America drink grape flavored kool-aid laced with cyanide and over 900 people died. So when someone uses the kool-aid reference, it's usually because he or she is infering that a lot of people sometimes blindly follow others without making up their own mind. I hope that helps.

Maybe you've heard of Jim Jones and his cult worshipers who died/committed suicide after drinking a kool-aid drink laced with cyanide.
I wasn't suggesting that Hunt is a cultist, but I've heard people refer to his candidacy as a "movement" and they militarize his rhetoric with things like "semper fi" ( Marine Corps Motto)and "taking the hill" (as if they were going to war).
Zealots and dictators often use similar rhetoric to whip up their supporters and create an "Us vs. Them" mentality. Then they attack anyone who disagrees with their postition with labels like "socialist, leftist, malcontent etc.." Then they refer to people who meet to oppose them as "conspirators, back room dealers, schemers etc.." It's an old method and sometimes effective, but it hardly inspires anyone in a positve and productive manner.
So I say to all of those who are tempted....don't drink the kool-aid!
Posted by: Green Machine | November 03, 2005 at 04:58 PM
Dang. All this time I thought it was Ken Kesey's kool aid.
Posted by: Martin Wisckol | November 03, 2005 at 05:01 PM
I suspected it was a reference to Jim Jones, but I wasn't sure. Martin you're really dating yourself, bro'.
So when person A drinks person B's kool-aid, he has, in effect, been brainwashed, hoodwinked, or otherwise deluded by that person, right?
So Allan has been sipping Gilchrist flavored kool-aid; Jubal, the Campbell variety, etc.
Posted by: David Zenger | November 03, 2005 at 05:18 PM
Well, Dave, I would say that Allan has downed the whole pitcher of Gilchrist Kool-Aid. Jubal, (despite my disagreement with him on Measure D, where he did drink some Kool Aid), is a more reasonable voice.

Careful Jeff, I'd say you're pretty drunk off of the Yes on D campaign kool-aid. I just wish some more Republicans in the county would be just a tad more independent in their thinking. There is way to much kool-aid going around. If someone is screwing up or voting wrong, I just wish more people had the guts to stand up and call it like they see it instead of being afraid it might upset the applecart.

Maybe someone should ask State Senator Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough). She worked for the Congressman who went over there to investigate. Was part of the entourage there at the airport when they were shot at by the Jonestown cult.

Ok, I am late to the party but I have to take issue with Elad Taylor's earlier comment that suggests Phil Paule is the only FR blogger to have run successful campaigns. Have you heard of District Attorney Tony Rackauckaus or then-supervisor Todd Spitzer or Judge Glenda Sanders (probably not but she won!). Well I managed them all. Now that I am in the opinion research business I don't run campaigns for the most part, I leave that to the consultants who hire me. But I know how to and am pretty damn good at it!
Thanks for listening.

Oh and Measure V, I ran that campaign too.
Note to Mr. "C": A thank you would be in order.

Adam,
Notice that I said "unlike some of the other FR bloggers." Your significant contributions to helping elect good candidates are well documented, although I am not so sure I would crow too much about Mr. Spitzer.
