I've been off-planet for a few days, and have been catching up on the local news via the OC blogosphere.
Allan Bartlett over at Powder Blue Report predicts Jim Gilchrist will pull a Jesse Ventura and be elected to Congress. Allan's a great blogger, and I admire his passion and commitment, but I don't think the analogy holds up. One factor Ventura's narrow victory -- a late surge of support from normally disengaged Minnesotans who took advantage of state law allowing voter registration up and including election day -- isn't present here. And Ventura won a plurality, but didn't have to go to a run-off. Plus, Venutra benefited from two evenly matched major parties and their nominees tearing each other apart, and no such balance exists in the 48th CD.
Allan also reports on Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez's pandering to Mexican business leaders. Nunez moans they are "affronted" by "anti-immigration hysteria" here in California. Boo-hoo -- as they'll pass up the chance to make money here because of "hysteria."
As usual, Sam Seaborn has lots of posts over at CA-48. Sam dings Demo candidate Tom Pallow, suggests there is something wrong with consultant Dave Gilliard having multiple clients, looks forward to a GOP "bloodbath" in the wake of the CFG anti-Brewer ad, and compares the CFG's attacks on Jean Schmidt in the 2nd Ohio Congressional District with its attack on Brewer.
Over at Political Dogfight, Stuart O'Neill looks forward to a GOP "bloodletting" in the wake of the CFG anti-Brewer ad and posts an "outsiders view" of the 48th CD special that dings Demo Tom Pallow.
Jim Lacy over at The Successor Project asks the question "Who Is Don Udall?" and speculates on the impact of the Mormon vote, notes with a faint whiff of disapproval that consultant Dave Gilliard is trying to enlist support for an initiative he is working on, and insightfully comments on the Secretary of State's decision barring Jim Gilchrist from using Minuteman Founder as his ballot designation.
And refreshingly off-the-topic of the 48th CD, Harriett Wieder blogs on the German newspaper Die Welt's ferocious editorial blasting Europes cowardice in the face of Islamist terrorism.
