The Democrat mayors of LA keep giving their buddy Larry Agran a gift: tough-sounding rhetoric on El Toro. But it's all meaningless. Ever the manipulator, Agran uses the alleged threat to claim that everyone should rally behind his leadership, ignore his corruption and keep him in office. It's all smoke. A voter-approved initiative says the old base can be used for anything but a commercial airport, the federal government says local zoning wishes should rule, the land is now owned by a powerful private homebuilder, construction begins soon and the almighty Irvine Co. doesn't want the place used for aviation. This game is long over.
