All of us can now sleep better at night, secure in the knowledge the Orange County Office of Protocol has been saved.
The Board majority declined to appropriate the $60K to keep the Protocal Office running (too bad they don't show similar miserliness when it come to county employee pensions), despite Chuck Smith's insistence that this speck of an county office is somehow critical to the continued growth of OC's multi-billion dollar economy.
Chris Norby and Bill Campbell had maintained that if it was so important to the private sector, then the private sector would pony up the pesos to keep it going.
And the private sector did just that -- sort of. I think Norby and Campbell when referred to the private sector they were thinking in terms of Broadcom-ish big corporations writing some checks -- and not in terms of Tom and Cynthia Coad.
But hey, the Coads' moolah is just as good. So here's a big cyber-pat-on-the-back for their public spiritedness.
