Reading the Left Angeles Times story on the latest "unexpected" surge in OC pension costs, the same thought kept tugged at my brain: "There's something missing from this story. But what is it? WHAT IS IT? (the last phrase spoken with Shatner-esque over-acting)"
Then it hit -- there was no outraged quote from Todd Spitzer. Perhaps that is because Todd is focused on running for D.A. and reserves his outraged for petty mistakes in a D.A. pilot program rather than the wholesale fleecing of Orange County taxpayers.
Then again, Spitzer no longer benefits from the media early-warning system he set up when he was a Supervisor. You see, Spitzer pushed through a requirement that anytime a county employee received a press inquiry, he or she was to immediately notify the 5th Floor -- meaning Todd Spitzer, because the other supervisor's didn't share his obsession with press coverage. Spitzer could then get on the phone with the reporter and get a quote or two in.
This system allowed Spitzer to try and shoe-horn himself into every news story on county government or county-related issues.
It's actually a very smart system, and a big reason why Spitzer was so good at generating press coverage for himself.
Left Angeles huh....interesting.
