It must be great being a political reporter/observer in Orange County, because as one scandal slowly fades away into the sunset, another sexy controversy will take its place as the focus of media attentions for the week. One of this week's issues, I predict, will be the sputtering Recall of Trung Nguyen. Kudos to Peggy Lowe over at Total Buzz for getting the scoop on this development in the ongoing drama between the two Nguyens. I didn't get to a computer fast enough to put it up before Jubal or Peggy.
I got a call from Trung this morning and he shared this letter and news that there is an effort to recall him from office by a handful of frustrated political opponents. The letter was sent via certified mail on September 14.
Citing a "Lack of leaderships" as the reason to remove Trung from public office, proponents of this recall effort, from what i've been told, are mainly some frustrated business owners on Main Street Garden Grove, a Viet Weekly staff writer and several of the magazine sympathizers to include a man by the name of James T. Gaughan, proponent No. 3 on the Notice of Intention to Circulate Recall Petition.
Jimmy, as he prefer to be called, is Janet Nguyen's brother-in-law who was deeply involved in the Recount process back in February of this year. Janet's sister is now one of the Policy Advisers in the Supervisor 1st District office. It looks like Janet has decided to bite back. So much for all that peace and unity in Central Orange County rhetoric. Is Janet trying recall Trung because he's going to run against her next year or because she is sympathetic to Viet Weekly?
Not that I am a fan of the recall effort against Diane Harkey in Dana Point, but when compared to the one going on in Garden Grove against Trung Nguyen, at least the folks down there got half a brain and listed the correct office they want Harkey to be removed from. Trung is a Trustee on the Garden Grove Unified School District, but on the Notice of Intention posted above, the recall organizers listed "office of Orange County Board of Education..."
