You Can't Keep A Good Demogogue Down

A reader sent me this from this morning's Capitol Alert:

GARDEN GROVE -- National Pres. Nativo Lopez, Mexican American Political Assn., and others launch "mobilizations" against "comprehensive immigration reform bill" pending in Congress, announce schedule of other mobilizations targeting US Reps. Joe Baca, Linda and Loretta Sanchez, Xavier Becerra, Zoe Lofgren, Maxine Waters and Howard Berman. 11 a.m., Outside office of US Rep. Loretta Sanchez, 12397 Lewis St. Contact: Lopez (714) 423 4800.

Too bad that whole cock-fighting thing didn't work out for Nativo.

Larry vs. Lou

Local hero Larry Lopez actually got himself on Lou Dobb's excellent CNN program the other night.  Dobbs has led all the cable news/comment/talkers for years with his great coverage of illegal immigration and the devastating impact it has on our economy, our schools, our healthcare system, our justice system and American culture.  Dobb's show is the only program many of us will watch on the Clinton News Network.

Nativo_usdLarry started off with his usual drivel and diatribe, when Lou dared to correctly and appropriately use the word "illegal" in a question.  I didn't have a recorder running at the time, but our friends John and Ken caught the interview and led off their KFI program with it today.  I managed to grab it, so listen to CLASSIC LARRY LOPEZ here via the John and Ken Show.  BUT, be very prepared for the racial epithets and BS spewing from this idiot's mouth over national television.  Realize what a racist he is, and what a detriment he's become to his own movement.

Nativo Surfaces

Nativo1Larry Lopez is at it again.  I read earlier that Art Pedroza knew this malcontent dirtball was behind at least some of the protests, general lawlessness and truancy seen all over southern California the last few days.  Larry's not only encouraging student walkouts, but also wants the parents to go along.

Larry needs to go play in the traffic himself.  Here's a segment from KFI's John and Ken Show this aft (Ken only) where their reporter Eric Leonard identifies Larry as one of the instigators.  Leonard's their best news guy, and his stuff is mostly toward the end of the clip.  Listen here.

Ramifications Of Nativo Lopez Ruling

FR Blogger Michael Houston has an excellent summary and analysis of last week's 9th Circuit Court ruling on petitions used to qualify the Nativo Lopez recall.

I saw Houston's picture on the blog. Is he old enough to drink?

Federal Court Rules That Nativo Lopez Recall Was "Improperly Conducted"

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has issued a ruling that "The 2003 recall of controversial Santa Ana schools trustee Nativo Lopez was improperly conducted," according to an breaking OC Register story by Martin Wisckol and Fermin Leal:

The court found that petitions circulated for the recall should have been translated into Spanish, as outlined by the federal Voting Rights Act. The county Registrar of Voters Office, which was the defendant, and lower courts had opined that the petitions preceded the actual election and were not subject to the act.

Praise Allah, though, the recall election itself will stand -- though I'm surprised the wacky Ninth Circuit didn't go all the way and overturn Nativo's recall.

Maybe the thought of re-enthroning a cock-fighting proponent was too much for their liberal sensitivities.

UPDATE: Martin relays that according to Loyola University Law School's elections specialist Richard L. Hasen, this ruling could effect all initiative petitions in California.

Eep.

Doug Bandow On Nativo Lopez

Libertarian scribe Doug Bandow takes aim at ethno-hustler Nativo Lopez and his curious support for Prop. 77 in this new American Spectator column.

Thursdays With Nativo

Last Thursday, a small group of activists protested outside Hermandad Nacional Mexicana HQ to call attention to Nativo Lopez making common cause with cock-fighting organizations. The other day, I received an e-mail from the ringleader describing their Thursday with Nativo.

October 6, 2005, activists rallied outside of Nativo Lopez's Santa Ana office,  to protest his opposition to Nell Soto's Senate Bill 156 (read the bill at the end of this email)*.  This legislation would make repeat cockfighting offenses punishable as a felony:

OUR MEETING WITH NATIVO LOPEZ

NATIVO LOPEZ IS PRESIDENT of the Mexican American Political Association and a leading force behind Hermandad Mexicana Nacional (Mexican National Brotherhood), a tax-exempt non-profit organization.

I am going to start this report at the end of the protest.

After the protest, three of us visited the Hermandad Mexicana Nacional office and requested a meeting with Nativo Lopez.   After a wait, Nativo Lopez met with us.

Above, I am holding a bag, available in the reception area.  Bags are provided so you can fill them with the free literature available.  Here are some samples of the literature in my bag:

*Buy your home with Hermandad Mexicana Nacional - we can show you government programs available

*Free consultation with Attorney Araujo - to receive maximum compensation possible for auto, work or personal injuries

*If you need a better job - a brochure on how to get one - with federal funding

There was a sign located throughout the reception area, you can see it above my right shoulder, which states in Spanish: "Governor Schwarzenegger I Want My Driver's License" - with the Virgin of Guadalupe on the sign.

After a wait, Nativo Lopez entered the reception area and invited us outside to a patio table to talk with him.  The receptionist had told him we were part of the protest.

Nativo Lopez  said  we were "misinformed" about his stance on cockfighting.

And then he stated his organization's concern is for the those who die crossing into the United States.  He said one person dies each day - that was his focus, not cockfighting.

I stated President Fox and the corrupt Mexican government are to blame for those individuals' deaths NOT the U.S.

Lopez went on to state that "80 percent of the people in the prison system are either African American or Hispanic."  He said this is because of racial profiling.

I said to Lopez, "Aren't they in prison because they committed crimes?"

He answered, "No."  And said it is due to racial profiling.

Save_me_rooster

Instead of passing out fliers, above,  is an example of the  roosters that were passed out to the public during the protest.  The tag reads, "Please don't kill me!  Stop the cockfighting!"  We presented one of the roosters to Nativo Lopez.

Nativo Lopez went on to state that the three strikes law is designed to target minorities.

He said his organization is against cockfighting BUT that he doesn't support Nell Soto's SB 156 because he does not think  participation in cockfighting should be a felony offense.

When Donna and I stated that laws should be upheld, Nativo Lopez stated, "Some people don't know cockfighting is against the law."

I said, "That's probably because they are in our country illegally."  To which Nativo Lopez replied that I was "racial profiling."

Nativo Lopez said funding should be available to educate the public about cockfighting being illegal.

"A person could just be walking by (a cockfight) and be arrested on a felony charge, when he is not even a spectator, under this law," Lopez said.

Lopez asked us, "And who will do the labor?  Will you pick grapes?"  Donna and I both pointed out we did menial labor as teens.  As a matter of fact, Donna said as a teen she did pick crops.

Then  Lopez stated as "white women" we would have employed nannies, gardeners, people to wash our cars, work at restaurants, etc.  That those who employ illegal border crossers enjoy the benefit of the labor.

I told Nativo Lopez that I agreed with him - employers exploit the labor force BUT I told him I only hire American citizens, wash my own car, watched my own child, etc.

Nativo_with_protestors

Above, one of our protesters, Nativo Lopez and Robin.

Nativo Lopez stated there is no such thing as an illegal human being.  We stated that people should enter out country legally and uphold our laws.

The Zapato Is On The Other Foot: Anti-Cockfighting Protest Against Nativo Lopez This Morning

Nativo Lopez is usually the one organizing protests against something or other. I found out this morning that he'll find himself the something being protested against.

A group of anti-cockfighting protesters will gather outside Nativo's offices at 611 Civic Center Dr W in  SanTana at this morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in case anyone wants to join the fun.

Why? Because for some bizarre reason, Nativo Lopez has acquired a new persona as the champion of legalized cock-fighting, based on his own twisted notion of what constitutes the Mexican cultural identity. That Nativo -- he sure knows how to make la raza look good to los gabachos!

Read my article to learn more about Nativo descent into the seedy world of cockfighting.

UPDATE: I've been sent some more concrete info in the form of a press release from Californians United Against Cockfighting (CUAC):

Californians United Against Cockfighting Calls on California Senator Gilbert Cedillo and Nativo Lopez, the President of the Mexican American Political Association, to End Their Opposition to Making Cockfighting a Felony in California.

(Santa Ana) – Starting at 10:30 today, Californians United Against Cockfighting (CUAC) will be protesting in front of Nativo Lopez’s offices located at 611 Civic Center Drive W, Santa Ana, CA, in support of making cockfighting a felony in California.

Currently under California Penal Code Section 597, cockfighting in the State of California is only a misdemeanor, despite the fact that there is indisputable evidence that this inhumane activity has been associated with illegal gambling, drug trafficking, and even murder.

For example, just this summer four people were killed in Mexico when assailants through grenades into a cockfighting ring splattering blood everywhere. Further, in July of this year authorities in South Carolina seized two pounds of marijuana and thousands in cash during the arrest of 60 people for cockfighting.

"It is clear that cockfighting is not only a cruel and inhumane practice, but it is a criminal activity that posses a clear and present danger to every member of the community where it takes place”, stated Pete Moyes, the grassroots coordinator for CUAC.

CUAC is therefore asking California Senator Gilbert Cedillo and MAPA President, Nativo Lopez, to reconsider their opposition to making cockfighting a felony, and use their influence within the California Legislature, and the Latino community, to help push through the legislation next year.

By making cockfighting a felony, it not only will serve as a stronger deterrent, but will assist law enforcement and local prosecutors when trying to convict perpetrators of such a cruel and inhumane crime. In addition, it will assure law abiding members of the community that they will not become victims of the crime and violence associated with the practice.

And Nativo Uno Mas...

Here's Michael Fumento, a columnist who researches rather than simply bloviating (as too many columnists on both sides of the ideological divide tend to do), on Nativoism.

And Nativo Again...

Lgsm04news_cockfighting_1I'd like to give better play to this mui excellente graphic of Cockfightin' Nativo by the OC Weekly's Bob Aul, and this Geoff Metcalf flogging of OC's dandy race-baiter.
