AD60 Watch: Curt Hagman Outdistances Larry Dick In Fundraising

Wow. In the 60th Assembly District GOP primary fund raising for the first six months of 2007, Sen Berdooer Curt Hagman crushed OCer Larry Dick (apologies for an earlier, inaccurate post -- I was looking at the wrong Hagman committee).

Candidate              Total Raised           Expenditures          Cash-On-Hand
Curt Hagman           $310,911.00             $18,599.99            $334,522.81
Larry Dick               $188,561.08              $30,524.41           $166,596.37

Larry Dick is a Director of the Municipal Water District of Orange County and Curt Hagman is a Chino Hills Councilman. They are the only two announced candidates in AD60, which sprawls across Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.

Both candidates loaned their respective campaigns $100,000  -- that seems to be the magic number to loan your campaign -- and after factoring that out the January/June fund raising disparity is even wider: $210,911 to $88,561.

La Habra Heights Councilman Stan Carroll had been thinking about joining the race, but unless he can jump-start a campaign with a sizable personal loan -- and be willing to spend it -- he'll have a tough time catching Curt Hagman, let alone Larry Dick.

AD60 Watch: Some Upcoming Larry Dick For Assembly Events

Dick_01 My friend Larry Dick -- businessman, MWDOC Director and GOP candidate for the 60th Assembly District -- is having a couple of fundraisers this week.

The first is Wednesday, June 20th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Sales & Service Inc. in Anaheim. Business attire - ugh.

The second is Friday, June 22 at The Clubhouse Restaurant at South Coast Plaza. This one is a lunch event from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Again - business attire. Hosted by Democrat Chris Townsend...Larry's candidacy is getting some bipartisan love.

AD60 Watch: Tim Escobar Not Running

Tim_escobar I' learned last week that Tim Escobar has decided against seeking the GOP nomination in the 60th Assembly District (apologies for the delay in posting -- got busy). That leaves the field OC-er Larry Dick (a Municipal Water District of Orange County director) and San Bernardino County's Curt Hagman (Mayor Pro Tem of Chino Hills). As far as I know, La Habra Heights Councilman Stan Carroll is still pondering the race but hasn't made a decision. So there's still no LA County candidate in this tri-county Assembly District.

This is good news for Dick and Hagman, as Escobar would have been a formibale opponent -- Iraq War veteran, good fundraiser, ran 12 points ahead of GOP registration in his 2002 race against Linda Sanchez. I posted more about Escobar here.

UPDATE (6/5/07): Mike Spence has this to say about Escobar's decision on FR Blog.

AD60 Watch: Chino Hills Mayor Pro Tem Curt Hagman Kicks Off Campaign

From Red County/San Bernardino with a H/T to FlashReport Blog:

Yesterday, GOP Assembly candidate Chino Hills Mayor Pro Tem Curt Hagman held a campaign event in the Los Angeles County portion of the 60th Assembly District that was well-attended by a number of influential district residents. Hagman is seeking the Republican Party nomination for the 60th Assembly District, a seat currently held by departing incumbent Bob Huff. Huff is vacating the Assembly seat to run for State Senate.

AD60 Watch: Tim Escobar To Join Field?

Tim_escobar_2 During the past couple of weeks, I've heard a new name talked about as a en trant into the AD60 GOP primary sweepstakes: Tim Escobar.

Escobar was the 2002 GOP nominee in the 39th Congressional District, when he faced off against now-Rep. Linda Sanchez in her first Congressional election. Sanchez beat him 54.9% to 40.8% (52,256 to 38,925). It should be noted the district registration was a 54% Democratic and 28% Republican, so Escobar ran well ahead of GOP registration while holding Sanchez to Democratic registration, and raised approximately $220,000.

Escobar works for a brokerage firm and is an Army reservist recently returned from Iraq. He lived in La Mirada when he ran for Congress, and I assume he still does.

He would be the only non-elected candidate in the incipient 60th Assembly District Republican primary field, which thus far is comprised of Metropolitan Water District Director Larry Dick and Chino Hills Councilman Curt Hagman. La Habra Heights Councilman Stan Carroll is also pondering entering the race.

AD60 Watch: A Third Candidate In The GOP Primary?

Stancarroll FR Blogger Mike Spence writes that he was at a San Gabriel Valley Lincoln Club meeting this morning and heard a third candidate may join Chino Hill Councilman Curt Hagman and Municipal Water District of OC Director Larry Dick in the 60th Assembly District GOP primary (h/t to Red County/San Bernardino):

It was none other than La Habra Heights Councilman Stan Carroll. I pretty sure he has been elected at least two times to the council. Stan is a professor at Rio Hondo College and a former prosecutor in San Bernardino. Did I mention the district included parts of three counties? (SB, LA and the OC).

You can read the rest of Mike's post here.

Filing is a loooong way off, so the field may grow larger yet. Stay tuned.
