Nick Berardino's Response To Greenhut's Sunday Editorial

Nickberardino_6Following the shellacking his union and the AOCDS were handed in the 2nd Supervisor District, OCEA boss Nick Berardino sent out this e-mail to his membership:

From: Nick Berardino [mailto:NBerardino@oceamember.org]
Sent: Monday, June 12, 2006 3:42 PM
Subject: FW: Greenhut Editorial and Berardino's Response

I have attached two documents that I would like all of you to read. The first attachment "Ready To Rumble" was an editorial  by the Register basically written like a piece from the school "nerd society"..... "ha ha we won now you guys are really going to get it" !

The second attachment is my response.... that I want to share with all of you. We lost the campaign (no sugar coating it; no excuses) but we have won many campaigns and we will continue to win more in the future. The most important thing is we made a deliberate decision to stand up for ourselves and not to cower in the corner and allow somebody who has been attacking us just to walk in and attack us some more. Equally important is the fact that we will continue to fight if necessary and we will be even more vigorous (economically and otherwise) in the future.

Somebody must stand up for the ordinary working men and women and their children....and that somebody is and will continue to be us.------In Solidarity-------Nick Berardino

I love the "we're so oppressed" tone that always permeates Berardino's missives, as if county employees are braving a gauntlet of axe-handle brandishing Pinkerton toughs and Tommy gun-wielding policemen every time they attend a union meeting.

In any case, read Berardino's response, which includes this non-germane gem:  "employees of the County of Orange are not eligible for social security[sic]."  That's right, Nick: unlike the rest of us taxpayers, they're lucky enough not to be compelled to participate in a government Ponzie scheme!

2nd SD Mailbox: Gov't Unions Final Flail At Moorlach

Mailbox_74 Here's the final government union IE against John Moorlach in the 2nd Supervisor District.

Still what does Dave Shawver lose in all of this? Nothing, in my opinion.

He loaned his campaign $11,186 -- which is more than covered by $15,250 in union contributions.

His cash-on-hand as of May 20 was $23,158.73. Given that he only sent out one mailer (to absentee voters) and allowed the government unions to do all the heavy lifting for him, Shawver will probably finish out the race -- after paying himself back, if he hasn't done so already -- with a few thousand dollars in his campaign account.

Not bad for a Councilman from a city the sole redeeming feature of which is Adventure City.

2nd SD Mailbox: CAL-YAF Targets Democrats With Pro-Moorlach Mailer

Mailbox_70 California Young Americans for Freedom sent out this mailer over the weekend, targeting high-propensity Democrats and encouraging them to vote for John Moorlach for Supervisor.

2nd SD Mailbox: IEs From The Good Guys

Mailbox_69 The usual suspects you can rely on to fire off conservative artillery have lobbed some more rounds into  Ft. Dave Shawver.

The CRA sent out this funny piece zapping Shawver on taxes and this piece lambasting the government union smear campaign (funded in part of Fieldstead). Both mailers the work of Bieber Communications. The Lincoln Club of Orange County mailed a second IE continuing the "Dave Shawver is a liberal labor pawn" meme.

The CRA is also paying for robo-calls from OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh slamming "liberal union bosses" and Shawver's record, from Assemblyman Van Tran to Vietnamese voters and from former OC Democratic Party Chairman John Hanna to Dem voters.

John Moorlach
is a great conservative who has toiled for the cause lo these many years -- and when  he came under fire, the good guys mount up to lend a hand.

2nd SD Mailbox: Lincoln Club of OC Steps Up To The Plate

Mailbox_64 You gotta love the Lincoln Club of Orange County -- they aren't ones to stand on the sidelines while the government unions are attacking a fine conservative Republican like John Moorlach.

This hit yesterday in the 2nd Supervisor District.

The Nick Berardino and his comrades aren't the only ones who know how to bare-knuckle it.

Speaking of Nick Bardardino, I present his May OCEA General Manager's Message for your reading entertainment. Nick's e-mail prefaces it thus:

I have attached my General Manager's message for the month of May. I know many of you have seen it already but I thought it was important to once again get out the truth about our pensions and the fact that opportunists are misrepresenting the facts to further their careers. Debate is always healthy but outlandish misrepresentations by some officials have corrupted the foundation of truth which is essential for the privilege of public service. Please review the attachment and circulate among your coworkers.

In Solidarity--------Nick Berardino

It's a fascinating journey into the thought process of a government employee union boss.

2nd SD Mailbox: Moorlach Mailer Counters Union Lies

Mailbox_62 Here's a very good mail piece from the John Moorlach for Supervisor campaign. It highlights endorsements from a former OC Republican Party chair and OC Democratic Party chair. It then goes on to rebut the government unions' smear campaign against Moorlach.

It's well done, and effectively blunts the public employee unions' effort to cast Moorlach as the Son of Satan.

Laer Pearce On The Moorlach/Shawver Race

Laer Pearce has an on-target post on the Moorlach-Shawver contest in the 2nd Supervisor District and it's implications over at his Cheat Seeking Missiles blog.

A Moorlach victory is vital, because to allow government employee unions -- government organized as a special interest -- to so openly and nakedly determine the outcome of this election really would be a blow to liberty and limited government.

2nd SD Mailbox: Cal-YAF IE For Moorlach Targets Vietnamese

Mailbox_59 California Young Americans for Freedom have stepped into breach in the 2nd Supervisor District to do battle with the government union hordes.

Mindful that Asian voters saved Tom Harman's bacon and enabled him to squeak out a win over Diane Harkey, the YAFers' IE targets Vietnamese voters, including a message from Assemblyman Van Tran.

Kudos to YAF.

I've been encouraging The New Majority to also take step into the breach and fire off a few howitzer salvos in the 2nd SD on behalf taxpayers, liberty and limited government. It would have helped the cause while dismantling unfair perceptions of their group.

Maybe next time.

2nd District Mailbox: Unions Continue "John Moorlach Is A Mean, Mean Man" Campaign

Mailbox_57 The AOCDS and United Employees Organizations of Orange County continue to wage their campaign of nastiness against one of the most decent public servants in Orange County, in their quest to elect their chosen non-entity candidate over OC Treasurer John Moolrach in the 2nd Supervisor District.

Here are the two most recent union IEs:

First is the Moorlach-is-against-widows-and-orphans mailer. That is literally what it says. This is classic union tactics against any politician who refuses to unquestioningly genuflect to their demands. Personally, I don't believe this ham-handed atom bomb mailer is going sway many votes. It will appeal to a confirmed union activist/Moorlach hater, but I doubt your average conservative or middle-of-the-road voter is going to buy it.

Then there's this one that hit yesterday. It's a real man-bites-dog situation: government unions expressing concern about costs to taxpayers! Color me skeptical.

You can tell from their IEs that the government unions hatred of John Moorlach far exceeds their affection for Dave Shawver. Their pro-Shawver mailers have a boiler-plate look, like they were bang out in a hurry. But you can tell the anti-Moorlach IEs were crafted more lovingly and with the kind of attention that's fed y either deep affection of deep enmity.

2nd SD Mailbox: Moorlach In the Mail Again

Mailbox_56 The John Moorlach for Supervisor campaign is in the mailbox again today, this time with an offense-is-the-best-defense response to the public employee union campaign against him.

The quality and readability of Moorlach's mail is far superior to the generic stuff the union IEs are sending out for Dave Shawver. And the despicable "John Moorlach hates widows and orphans of dead firefighters" mailer is so far over the top it will rebound against its intended beneficiary, Dave Shawver.

AOCDS and United Employee Organizations of Orange County should find themselves a new consultant for future elections -- and place their baser political instincts in check..
