Barring an act of God, John Moorlach's quest for the 2nd Supervisor District seat is unstoppable. He has a huge head of steam, and the public employee unions efforts to recruit an opponent have met with failure. After all, what sane politician wants to step in front of a freight train?
This came over the transom from the Moorlach campaign earlier today:
OC District Attorney Tony Rackauckas Announces Endorsement of Moorlach for Supervisor
(Irvine) – Coming on the heels of a rare, pre-primary endorsement by the Orange County Republican Party, respected Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas today announced his support for John Moorlach. Rackauckas joins a growing list of local elected leaders supporting Moorlach’s candidacy for Orange County’s 2nd Supervisorial District.
“The voters of the 2nd District need John Moorlach as their Supervisor,” said Orange County DA Tony Rackauckas. “He is a man of unwavering principles, and will be a voice of sound management and fiscal responsibility on the Board of Supervisors.”
Twice elected county wide to the District Attorney’s office, Tony Rackauckas is a popular and well-respected name in Orange County.
“Tony Rackauckas’ endorsement is yet another sign of John’s continuing consolidation of the Republican Party behind his effort momentum and leading status in this race,” said spokesman Tim Clark.
Since his appointment to Treasurer in 1995, John Moorlach has brought steady, fiscally conservative management to Orange County’s treasury. He has been recognized nationally for his highly successful efforts in Orange County’s economic recovery, helping to restore the county since its bankruptcy. His accomplishments have also been featured in dozens of books written about the Orange County bankruptcy, and he is frequently featured in the Wall Street Journal and other publications.
He is currently unopposed in the race to replace retiring Supervisor Jim Silva.
Tonight, Moorlach is holding a 50th birthday fundraiser at the Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim. It's $250 a head and features "a special and a well-known guest speaker will be addressing Moorlach's love for California and its history." Wow -- hob-nobbing with county lobbyists and a mystery date! Fantastisch!
I'm interested to see what his campaign finance reports show.
